雅思口语:描述一件家具

Describe a piece of furniture in your family.
You should say:

what the furniture is

what it looks like

whether it was expensive
and explain what it is mainly used for.

In my family, there is an antique chair which has been passed down from my great-grandfather. It is now kind of rickety and worm-eaten and the lacquer finish is chipping off.

It consists of various parts, such as legs, armrests, a backrest and a seat, all of which are not adjustable. The history of it can be traced back to the Qing dynasty so it's really old and probably worth a lot of money if we put it up for auction. I believe it’ll be safe to consider it our family heirloom.

Interestingly, it really fits into my living room and friends of mine all think the design is timeless. It doesn't feel odd at all in my western-style apartment. Because of its high value, this chair is just used for decoration instead of the original function. Honestly speaking, we have thought of selling it to an antique store, but finally we decided to keep it with us because this antique chair embodies a long and complex history. We do want to pass down the stories of our family to our next generations, and this chair, doubtlessly, is an integral part of it.
